Shelton, CT
I was in Shelton CT near water company land and I saw a large Mountain Lion (Fall 2012). I pulled over to take a cell call and shut off my SUV; however, my lights stayed on and shined on the road just ahead of a sharp curve. It was quiet with no one else around. As I finished up my call before talking off again, I saw a tan animal walk out of the woods and onto the road about 30' ahead. I thought it was a deer at first since the tan color was similar, but then it stared back at my lights and I saw the cat like eyes reflect back at me. It then took an immediate 180 degree turn (deer don't turn like that) and walked back in the same direction it came from. It was then that I saw the shape of its head, the long tail, and noticed how thick it was (about 100 lbs). I started the truck but it was gone by the time I could make the turn.
I went back several time since but never saw it again or any signs that it was still in the area...until today (Winter 2013). I clearly saw fresh tracks in the deep snow just after Blizard Nemo. The snow was 40" so it looked like the cat had difficulty getting around. There were deer tracks in the area too but they were clearly different. The cat tracks were close together and the deep snow was pushed aside where the cats lower body draged though the deep snow. I go there weekly and hope to see it again in the near future. I know that part of shelton well. There are at least 3-4 areas of water co. Property. Were you near Trap Falls reservoir on Isinglass Rd? There are some sharp curves there at the end toward Huntington St. There are other areas but your description of the road fits that area. There was a sighting in that neighborhood a year or so ago.

My neighbor in derby off a benanto drive was saying he saw a mountain lion in his backyard. He set up a pole camera and what was in his backyard was a rather large bobcat. I would imagine people can make mistake a bobcat for a mountain lion. Give a specific location as I would like to check myself for a mountain lion in shelton.

A former owner of a animal rescue based in Shelton posted two pictures on facebook a couple of days ago taken in her yard I think with a Deer Cam and although one picture was somewhat blurry the other one clearly shows it to be a large cat and it has the build and color of a mountain lion without a doubt. Looking close at the picture the cat has lots of hind quarter muscle and thick legs and a somewhat small looking head which are all chracteristics of a mountain lion as opposed to a bobcat which would, even with a larger cat, be more equal in its proportions.

My daughter saw a mountain lion cross route 8 southbound near exits 12/13 in Shelton last March. her description left no doubt in my mind that it was a cougar and not a bocat. I posted the details she provided to me on this site. Looks like this cat has found a home.
