While outdoors assessing our garden, my father heard the sound of a buck snorting, this was around 130 in the afternoon. Being a strange time of day to hear such a noise we ventured in the direction it seemed to be originating from. Our path led us down our driveway towards Rt 7. as we came closer to the end of the driveway a small doe ran through woods from the direction of our neighbors across rt 7. Curious to see if we could catch a glimpse of the buck we continued down the driveway as it continued to snort quite loudly. Upon reaching a point in the driveway where the neighbors front door & yard were visible, we sighted a large cat 3-4ft in length with a tail of similar length. It was Dark tan/brown & blackish near its spine. It slinked along slowly but was gone in moments due its great stride as I fumbled to catch a photo with my cell phone. We are accustomed to bobcats here & have seen many they are a regular predator of our chickens in the winter. What we saw was No bobcat.
So it was summer 1998. I was walking on Warren turnpike rd in Falls Village. This is the road Housatonic Valley Regional High School is on. It was around 5:30-6 AM. Suddenly a large cat walks out into the road about 20 feet in front of me. It was a mountain lion. We stared at one another for a few minutes and then it continued on it’s way. I stood there amazed and worried wether to continue past where it entered the woods. Soon I did and nothing to worry about.
Fast forward to around 2002. After picking up a co worker in Falls Village, on our drive to Lakevill for work we were headed toward Hotchkiss school on rt112 from Lime Rock. Heading down the last hill before the school just after Race Track rd. There was a large mountain lion we had to stop for as it was crossing the road. We noticed there was a well worn path there as well. Not sure if it was a deer path or what.
At the time of these two sightings I was unaware that they supposedly weren’t in our state. I didn’t hear that until 5 years later or so and I thought that was rediculous when I heard it. And by the way I’ve been outdoorsy and a hunter and very into animals my whole life. I know exactly what I saw. No mistaking.
Just saw mountain lion walking in the neighbors yard . Unfortunately the dog noticed at the same time and scared it off!
