I wanted to let you know that yesterday afternoon I was cutting firewood with my cousin on my 20 acres of land in North Woodstock, CT when we spotted a mountain lion. We had taken a brake from cutting and returned to my house which is approximately 100 yards from where we were cutting. As we were talking over the hood of my Kubota tractor my cousin unexpectedly froze in amazement and gestured toward the stone wall where we had just been cutting wood ten minutes earlier. As my eyes focused on the wall I saw a tan body moving along and it disappeared behind the wall as quick as I could focus on it. My cousin who had the chance to see it for 2-3 seconds is positive it had a long tail and was in the 70 pound range. My cousin is a knowledgeable person and an avid outdoors-man. We’ve seen bobcats before and this definitely wasn’t a bobcat.
Early evening, about 5:30pm, on Sunday July 24th I saw a mountain lion walk right up my dirt driveway in Woodstock Valley. Our house is set back some from the driveway which makes a T. It didn’t seem to concerned that my husband and I were outside I tried to point it out to my husband but it got the the tree line and corn field before he was able to see the whole thing. Needless he didn’t really believe me saying it was probably a dog.. I know what I saw and it was bigger than my dog and had a long tail and black marking on it’s face. Unsettling to say the least I have small children. I’m glad you have this sight so others can be aware.
Glanced out my back windows in mid September last year (2010) and saw this mountain lion walking through our backyard next to our ponds. I walked out to my deck for a closer look and then saw it pause, turn its head toward me and then go into a fast trot. I was just amazed at its beauty, color and long tail.
I knew they were in Woodstock but never thought I would actually see one in my backyard.
