On Tuesday 6/20/17 about 3 PM I was reading on my second floor deck. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a large dog, (my initial impression), emerge from the woods onto the back lawn. I got up to get a better look. I immediately saw the animal wasn’t any type of dog. It was a very big cat. It continued slowly across the lawn. It was only about 35 feet from the deck and I was clearly able to identify it. Simply way to big to be a bobcat or lynx and the body shape and coloring was wrong. At that point I shouted my surprise and the cat stopped and turned toward me. Now I also could clearly see the face. I watched the cat for a good 30 sec as it continued slowly across the lawn and disappeared back into the woods. The cat was about the height of a large German Shepard but longer with a long sturdy tail. It weighed 70-80 lbs.. The body was dark tan with a lighter face, especially the muzzle. The tail had a very distinctive black tip. I live in a highly wooded area in Wolcott. I have lived a number of years in California and have seen mountain lions there a number of times. This was a smaller mountain lion; my guess a female.
