My friend Charles Hodek and I were hunting deer with the bow several years ago in Tunxis State Forest in Hartland to the west of of Rt. 179. The snow was crotch deep so we were on snowshoes. We hiked in about a mile and hunted our normal area about a half mile East of Barkhamsted Reservoir. We came upon a deer kill where there was a blood red area about 50 feet in diameter. We found one large cat track entering the area and only one large cat track leaving the area. All that was left of the kill was the paunch and one broken off rear leg. There was nothing else. I would estimate that the deer was probably a yearling about 70 pounds based on the paunch. My friend Charlie has never hunted with the bow since that day. It was no doubt a mountain lion kill.
