Believe I heard a cougar

At 10 PM, as I closed up my puppies, dogs, a mare and filly in the barn, I heard a very large animal chorteling, sounded like a 800 pound raccoon. I then found the sound on line....for cougar. The next morning, I noticed a large patch of broken crushed plants where something quite large had been resting, about 6 feet plus in diameter. I live in Roxbury, CT
