Mountain Lion Huckleberry Trails
Came across a lone mountain lion as I was walking down a trail (hill) on Huckleberry Hill Trails in Avon, CT. It came out of some brush on my left...stopped and peed on a small wooden slat bridge and stayed still for a few moments. I noticed something to my right up the hill from me and there were about 4 or 5 deer who were watching me...They ran off after I moved and the lion went into the brush in the general direction of the deer. It never noticed me and I didn't get another glimpse of it....Deer took off and hopefully away from him...He was obviously stalking them...I turned and went back the way I came. It was approx. 4:30 pm in a very wooded area with trails frequented by people/their dogs and mountain bikers. It was about 50 or so feet from me and was very large...I have a 75lb rottweiler and it was at least as big if not bigger...it was a dark brown...probably 90+ lbs...long body...There are various pockets of water a long the trail but because I didn't continue on the same path not sure if there was any where he had come from....He definitely was following the deer...I have walked those trails for 12 years and never seen a lion out there...
