Mountain Lion in Goshen
July 2011: I've never seen such a big cat outside a circus or zoo! I was eating breakfast in my kitchen early one morning (about 7 or 7:30 a.m.). My kitchen windows overlook a big, open field at the top of Tamarack Lane. I looked out and saw a large animal trotting along the edge of the field. It was approaching my house from the north. From a distance, I thought it was the neighbor's Golden Retriever. It was about the same color as the neighbor's dog, which almost always stays close to the neighbor's house down the hill to my east. As it came closer, I saw that the animal was not a dog. It was a big cat -- big cat head, teeth, ears, paws, and tail. It passed quickly behind my house, maybe fifty feet outside my kitchen window. It disappeared into the woods on the south side of the property. I reported the sighting to Wildlife and Fisheries, who politely suggested that I had seen a coyote!
