Sighting in South Windsor
I spotted the mountain lion at around 6:00 PM on Wednesday, October 17th.
We were traveling north on Buckland Road, with the Cumon Inn to our right and the Shoppes at Evergreen Walk to our left. The animal crossed the road in front of us traveling west, leaving the field north of the Cumon Inn, and heading for the field north of the Shoppes. It was a tan, cat looking animal, and after researching online, we determined that it was a mountain lion (as we suspected upon seeing the animal run). I estimate that it was around 30 lbs, based on it's height. It's relative size indicated that it is not fully grown.
In terms of it's activity and aggression level at the time of the sighting... the animal was not chasing anything, and appeared to just be roaming. I believe that if it had encountered a human or large animal at the time, it would have run away in defense. I do not believe it was actively hunting at the time of the sighting, and no humans were in danger.
We have seen coyotes, foxes and deer in the area before, and this was nothing like that. This animal was very cat-like in the way it ran and in the shape of it's body.
Please feel free to contact me with any follow up questions. There was someone else in the car with me who can also attest to what was seen, and might be able to provide additional insights.
Thanks a lot.
