Litchfield, CT Mountain Lion/Cougar
On June 11th my boyfriend and I went for a hike up to Mount Tom State Park in Litchfield, CT. We saw the tower and on our way back down the trail we heard a loud moaning noise. We turned to our left and it looks like we startled them both. A mountain lion/cougar was chasing a deer. The deer got away, but the lion/cougar was so startled he jumped up on a tree and hanging by his enormous claws, turned and looked at us. He was just about 50 feet away. He was huge. Everyone says "Did you get a picture?" I have never been so scared in my life. A camera was thee last thing on my mind. The lion/cougar jumped down and was out of my sight, in the brush. I was terrified! I called the DEP and left a vm but have not heard back. It seems as tho they keep fighting the fact that they are here. We looked online and this cat looked nothing like a bobcat. The DEP should let people at least know there have been possible sightings! There is a camp with young children at the entrance of the park. And I'm sure we aren't the only ones who will be hiking there this summer!

Are you sure it was not a deer chasing a large house cat? That is what the DEP will say!!
