Mountain lion heard
We were sighting with our windows open tonight, June 11th, as it was warm in the house. We live in Preston CT. Around 10:30 we started hearing this strange noise coming from across our street. Since we live out in the country we weren't sure what it was. As we stepped out onto our deck it was noise like no other we had heard in the past. And trust me living out here we've heard coyotes, owls and good old frogs. This was totally out of our normal sounds. As we came in and went our the front door, our elderly neighbor was awoken by the sound and she turned on her outside lights. The noise appeared to be coming from her back yard. She has chickens so she went to check on them. Shortly after she went back and in and turned off her light the noise stopped. We came back in and started to google animal sounds thinking it was an owl or possibly even a fox, but to our amazement it was a mountain lion. We have the perfect conditions out here, lots of land and lots of animals. Not sure I would like to run into it on a walk, but would love to catch a glimpse of it at some point. I think from now on I will be going out with the family dog on her last run of the evening. If this is the same cat, it's on the prowl for a mate, and since we live closely to Windham, I would guess he/she has moved.

Where abouts in Preston are you? Im mapping cougars east ot the CT River. I think there are several east of the river. The Rt 66 cougar, the Union/Woodstock cougar, and the North Stonington/New London cougar. Just from the groupings of the sightings.

Did you see my post of June 24 (“roadkill in Preston”)?
I put this is a comment to your post so that it would run through your email - being a person who may have been attentive to local buzz re: what I passed then… Are you near the area I describe?
On Google Earth I estimate the position around N41d33m33s W71d58m11s
Isn’t this site looking for roadkill-like siting confirmation? or is it rather looking for breeding residence in the state?
