Sighting in Colchester Nov. 14, 2012
I saw a large mountain lion crossing rt. 85 in Colchester at 3:25 pm. I was in my car and watch it for about 15-20 sec. No mistaking this for another animal. Large paws, huge shoulders, long tail. It was medium brown, about 2.5 ft tall as it sprinted. It's length was about 5 ft. Excluding the tail. After crossing the road it went up an imbankment into a brushy area bordering a new construction of a large building. I turned my car around and went up to the intersecting road (rt. 354 Parum Rd .) where the bushy area ends hoping to spot it there. To no avail. For locals this sighting was between Herman's Diner and the rt. 2 overpass. There is a pond very close to where I spoted it comming from. I found this web site and was surprised to read that there were other sightings very close to my sighting, athough I was never in doubt that I witnessed a wild mountain lion.

I also saw a mountain lion on the airline trail about 3 years ago while living in CT. I spoke to a lady that was a member of the audobon society and told her, she immediately told me I was crazy, it must have been a bobcat I saw. I am from NC and familiar with bobcats - they look NOTHING like a mountain lion. I don’t undertand why people won’t admit that they are in CT. With so many people utilizing the trails and parks in CT you’d think authorities would want to make everyone aware before someone gets hurt.
