Was driving up route 197, headed northeast at 2:00 p.m. today (Sunday, May 12). Approximately 1 – 1.5 miles past the 169 intersection, a mountain lion ran across the road – there was one car in front of me, and the cat ran in front of that car. We were traveling slowly, so the mountain lion was approximately 15 yards in front of my car. Light brownish tan in color, had a tail, very sleek, not a bobcat (which we do see on occasion in the area). Too large to be a dog or housecat; ran quickly across the road and disappeared into woods on the other side. Ran like a cat versus a deer. Approximately 3 or so feet tall at the shoulder.
