There was a mountain lion killed in Milford, CT at around exit 55. The dead carcass is evidence that in fact there are mountain lions in CT. I'd like to see the sightings map updated to reflect this animal. The State DEP suggests this was an escaped pet but has produced no evidence of this. There has been speculation that this was the same Mountain Lion that was seen by numerous people in Greenwich. However the Greenwich sightings continued after the animal was killed in MIlford.
There are mountain lions in Connecticut. They are in very small numbers but they are out there. The deer and turkey population have grown radically to easily support a population of these animals.
Earlier in the week, a Milford women photographed a "Bob Cat" that was reportedly 60-80 pounds. Clearly this animal is not a mountain lion as it has a bob cat like tail. However the animal shows some traits that are not common in bobcats. I have heard discussion of hybrid animals out there I wonder if this may be one.

The longer it takes the state and federal governments to tell us what this animal was, the greater the likelihood that it was a wild mountain lion. As this is written, they are trying to figure out how to spin this. I have no doubt that it was a wild animal. It could have easily come down from western Mass. by following the ridges with only one major highway (I-84) between the Berkshires and where it was killed in Milford. The state and federal governments don’t want to acknowledge the presence of mountain lions in the northeast because they would then be required to manage them. And that takes resources.
