BIG NEWS! Three female mountain lions confirmed, one east of the Mississippi!
Per the Cougar Network, they made the following statement:
"Within weeks of our peer-reviewed paper suggesting females are likely to take 25 YEARS to recolonize
parts of the Midwest, we have THREE females confirmed in Manitoba, Kansas, and now in Tennessee - hopefully
she's still alive. It would seem we may have less time than we thought to organize our education and outreach! "
Michelle Larue from Cougar Network has confirmed that the Kansas cat is indeed a female.
Note Michelles great work was peer reviewed that indicated this would not happen for 25 years.
This clearly shows the status quo is behind the curve on this subject. There were not a large
number of confirmations in Tenessee, and finding a female shoots major holes into those that
flatly stated there were no females east of the Mississippi. There have been a large number of
confirmations in the southern Canadian provinces just north of New England and the Midwest as well.
Also several more in Wisconsin the last month. Wildlife agencies. They are everyplace there have been dismissed
sightings over the last decade.
The hard evidence is starting to pile up. Its a short hike for a cougar to go from Ontario or Quebec to Massachusetts
or Connecticut. We are hearing rumbles of possible evidence in Northern New England. The wildlife agencies are being
very silent for the moment though.
Its time the wildlife agencies faced up to the fact that we have at the least few around here now, and more will be arriving.
