Full moon and a mountain lion in Canterbury Connecticut…

On Wednesday October 8, 2014 at approximately 8:00 pm my husband and I had an adult mountain lion cross the road about 30 yards in front of us. We were on Gay Head Road traveling toward Bingham Road when it crossed from our left to the right side of the road. We were in our car and it appeared to be chasing something and did not look in our direction. This provided us with a very clear view of its side. It was running across the road between mailbox numbers 26 and 42. It's three foot long tail was out straight behind it and it's ears were flat against its head. The area it was coming from was a small field that seems to be quite over grown and headed into a very thickly wooded area. It almost seemed as though it's feet weren't even touching the road as it ran by and with very little effort scaled the stone wall in a very graceful fluid like movement. Little River is located about a mile and a half from the area that we saw it. There is also a farm nearby with many large rolling hay fields which attract a lot of deer. It was a dark tawny color with a darker tip on tail and darker around the edges of its ears. I am 110 percent positive that what we saw was a mountain lion, I have seen a bobcat before and this was not a bobcat. I wish the state would stop trying to deny that they are here and have been here for quite some time. Instead they should be actively educating people on what to do in the event that they encounter such an animal. We had passed through the area heading in the opposite direction about 15 minutes before we saw it, someone's large orange and white house cat was climbing over the stone wall where we saw the mountain lion coming from at that time. Four years ago during the winter of 2010/2011 my husband saw a juvenile one in the same area just a lot closer to Little River climbing down a snowbank to cross the road.We wonder if the one we saw this week was the same one just grown up. It was a beautiful animal and I am glad I saw it from my car, I only wish we had time to get the cellphone out to snap a picture but unfortunately it was not stopping to pose for us.
