09/06/15 I live on the Bristol, Southington and Wolcott corner right by Lake Compounce. I let my dogs out at 12:15 am for a quick bathroom walk before bed. I have invisible fence, so dogs get to run loose. I have almost 2 acres fences in. As soon as dogs went out they started barking like crazy. I walked over to the side of garage overlooking back valley to wood line. I have motion controlled lights so I walked to turn them on. There was a mt lion just outside my yard walking squared off with 2 of my dogs barking like crazy. I walked straight at cat, which just walked through neighbor's yard cross small brook, then turned parallel and just walked. I was on one side of brook and it was 25 yards just walking back toward woods. My dogs were behind me running up fence line. Cat never ran, just walked up hill and into the mountain laurel. I'm an active outdoorsman, hunter and know all the normal animals in CT. And that was a good sized mt lion. Submitted by James Blaschke

That is an awesome recounting…..l love thinking/hoping/wishing that there are mt lions among us. Ever since I was a little girl the cougar/Mt Lion has been my favorite animal. They are gorgeous…..

Yeah, you don’t want to tangle with these unpredictable beauties! I am from Boulder, CO-live there in the summer-and they are everywhere. Most of the time, they will leave humans alone but there have been a few tragic endings for a few bikers/joggers, etc. They ARE in Connecticut despite negations by authorities. As I mentioned in a previous comment, they don’t want people grabbing shot guns nor panicking. Still, it’s good for rural dwellers to be aware and be mindful about not leaving cats and dogs (or small children!) out after dusk.
