West Granby Sighting, 197 Case Street, Sept. 21st, 6:30pm

Mountain lions in CT? A few years before my father passed he had told me he saw a mountain lion walk past the front of his parked car while sitting in if at the base of Talcott Mountain in Bloomfield, CT. I had asked him if he could have been mistaken, but he was convinced he knew what he saw. He is from the west coast and has seen them in the northern parts of California growing up. He told me it had a very long tail and walked so close to the front of the car he could clearly see the back of the cat was as high as the hood on his car. That’s a pretty big cat! He has seen bobcats and said what he saw was no bobcat. Living in West Granby I’ve seen moose twice, bobcats on occasion, bear several times and frequently turkeys if not daily … Plenty of wildlife here. Aside from all of that, I'm writing this since my wife was in the garden yesterday before dusk at about 6:30pm and saw a larger than normal cat jump (pounce) into the tall grass behind our stone wall and then run through the clearing into the woods only 50 feet from her. I’m not sure what my wife saw, but what she described doesn’t fit the description of any local wild cats I know of. She said it was not as big as a German Sheppard, but much larger than a domestic cat. When it jumped she could hear the thump of its paws so the cat had considerable weight. The cat was seen near our stone wall where we knew of a rabbits den. Here's what she saw; no spots or flecks, long tail that was “S” shaped unlike a bobcat, darker tipped tail, short dark tan dense fur, probably 60+lbs. Doesn’t sound like a bobcat, but perhaps a smaller mountain lion. Hmmmm – don’t know? I've never seen a mountain lion here, but I do believe many of the mountain lion sightings to be credible. I know growing up there was less wildlife in this area, but now returning and believe its very possible a very few (or family of) mountain lions are here. After looking at pictures online she’s absolutely convinced she saw a mountain lion.
