Today, Friday, March 15 at approximately 7:45 am I was traveling on Route 244 West through Eastford when a big cat crossed the road in front of me heading North. It was walking rather slowly so I had a good look at it. My first instinct was that it was a bobcat, however, the long tail, dark fur and musculature of the body, and the shape of the face made me realize it was not a bobcat. It was taller, longer and had a long tail. Quite a surprise! Submitted by :Barbara Parziale
While looking out my window on Friday, March 9, I spotted a mountain lion heading up a rocky outcropping in my side yard. It was around 5:00 PM. It was crouched down low while scaling this ridge. Although crouched down, I could tell that this animal was larger than any German Shephard I have ever seen–I would say it was close to four feet in length. I still couldn’t believe what it could be so I double checked with photos online, and it was definitely a mountain lion. We live in an area with high-density deer population, so I assume that is why it was here.
