Cougar Crossing
I was driving my brother and some friends back home from the bars at about 2:30 am on August 3. As I was nearing my house on Linkfield Road, Watertown CT (around Gustafson's Farm), I saw a huge cat on the road. My first thought was BOBCAT, and I said "bobcat!". But as the cat reacted to my headlights, it accelerated extremely fast and jumped a 5 foot barbed wire fence, escaping into the fields. In it's jump I could see just how long it really was; at least 6 feet (including the tail). We soon determined it was a mountain lion, considering it had a long dark tipped tail, pale one-tone fur, and it flexed gigantic upper body muscles when it leaped the barbed wire fence. The tales are so true. I saw it in my headlights for at least 3 to 4 seconds; plenty of time to deliberate the specie. It's kinda scary those things are out there Submitted by: Tom Zaborowski
