Mt Lion sighting in Griswold
5/12 at about 6.25pm I was walking around my house to the back and caught movement through a gap in the trees of the woods out back. It was a mt lion on my property about 150 yds away which I first viewed for about 5 seconds. I then ran down the hill from my house and after about 15 seconds of looking in the direction it seemed to be heading I looked back towards where I first saw it and it was sitting there watching me. This second view was at a distance of about 50 yards across a small ravine and was for a total of about 5 seconds also. It turned around after we locked eyes for a moment and very calmly with its long tail waving behind, headed further back towards the back of my property and out of sight. I had no doubt this was a mt lion and not a bobcat which I have seen also. My neighbors have had sightings going back years and the last one was towards the end of last summer. As far as a description it was a brownish grey color, long tail, somewhere between a young adult and adult, 110 pounds maybe and was just moving at normal trot when I first saw it and moved away very calmly on my second sighting. I have been here 5 years and this was my first sighting but as I mentioned people up and down the road have seen it at one point or another. I live in Griswold between Browning Rd and Sam Chikan. Something to mention I have also not seen any deer all week and that is something which is normally a daily occurrence. My property is 5 acres with about 150 acres behind it and on the other side of our road again is several hundred acres heading down towards Strawberry Park campground in Preston City on Rte 165 and over to Sam Chikan Rd. We have had probably 5-7 sightings (a few on this site already) in the last few years in about a 2-3 mile radius of here.
