New Milford Mt Lion
About 7pm on Tuesday, 31mar15 I was coming to New Milford from Sherman on the winding part of rte 39 between White Silo and Candlelight Farm road. I saw an animal crossing from the south side to the north. I slowed down thinking it was a fox, and then came to a complete stop to watch the animal's confident, graceful swagger. I have a housecat and realized I was watching a big cat's hind aspect. The coat was an amazing caramel color with hatches/spots/markings of a slightly darker brown. The beast's tail was thick and velvety - now I know why the marsh plant is called "cattail". It was probably 30" from ground to haunch. I did not see the face, yet was intoxicated nonetheless. Very unbelieveable. It's hilly there. Definitely road lined with trees and bushes - yet they are still bare. An experience I will always remember!
